Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory features a lava lake that has been discovered on the crater floor of Mount Michael, an active volcano in the South Atlantic Ocean.

Scientists confirmed the discovery by combining three decades of high-resolution satellite images from Landsat, Sentinel, and ASTER.

This false-color image was composed from red and shortwave infrared light captured on January 31, 2018 by the Operational Land Imager on Landsat 8.
