Today’s Image of the Day comes thanks to the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at the world’s largest offshore wind farm: The London Array.
The London Array is located 12 miles off the coast of England in the Thames Estuary, where the River Thames enters the North Sea.
The wind farm has an impressive maximum generating power of 630 megawatts, which is capable of powering up to 500,000 homes.
It officially launched on April 8th, 2013. Here, the wind turbines have whipped up winds and swirling sediment.
This image was taken by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on board the Landsat 8 satellite.
