Phytoplankton bloom in the Arabian Sea • Earth.com

Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at a phytoplankton bloom in the Gulf of Aden in the Arabian Sea.

While blooms like this are more common during late summer, they can occur in winter too, as seen here off the coast of Yemen and Somalia.

This image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board the Aqua satellite.
