Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory shows a summertime phytoplankton bloom along the coast of Argentina.

Phytoplankton are at the very center of the ocean food web and are key producers of the oxygen that makes our planet suitable for accommodating life.

This image was captured on December 17, 2018 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite.
