Today’s Image of the Day comes thanks to the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at phytoplankton blooms in Lake Erie.

The phytoplankton blooms have persisted in the lake since mid-July, encouraged by both warm summer waters and nutrient runoff from nearby farms.

This image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) onboard NASA’s Terra satellite.
