The Priest River in northern Idaho • Earth.com

Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at the Priest River in northern Idaho.

The Priest River can be seen winding from top to bottom on the left side of the image, and is bordered on both sides by a forest that helps protect and maintain its water quality.

The checkered patterns to the right are due to strategic forest management for both wildlife habitat and timber harvesting.

This image was captured by an astronaut on board the International Space Station.
