Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Goddard shows the amount of rainfall that accumulated across the Philippines as a result of Super Typhoon Mangkhut.

The typhoon was responsible for at least 81 fatalities, including 66 people who lost their lives after torrential rains triggered a landslide in the northern Philippines.

Mangkhut became the most intense typhoon to ever strike Hong Kong, with wind speeds at approximately 155 miles per hour. In some regions, rainfall totaled over 27 inches.

This map was developed using measurements from NASA’s Integrated Multi-satellite Retrievals for GPM data (IMERG).
