Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at Tropical Cyclone Sagar, which made landfall in Somalia May 19th, 2018.

This image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board the Aqua satellite and shows the storm reaching maximum sustained winds of 65 miles per hour.

While tropical cyclones are rare in this area of the Arabian Sea, Sagar dropped more than a year’s worth of rain on the drought-stricken region.
