Today’s Image of the Day from the European Space Agency represents flooding in the port city of Beira in Mozambique, where flood water is finally starting to recede.

When Cyclone Idai made landfall on March 15, the storm devastated areas of Mozambique, Malawi, and Zimbabwe.

Idai is thought to be the worst storm ever to hit the southern hemisphere, affecting over a million people. The storm’s death toll is still unknown.

Combining three separate Copernicus satellite radar images, this picture shows regions where floodwaters are receding in purple. Areas still underwater are shown in red.
