Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory features a large alluvial fan made up of radial river channels running across the Taklimakan Desert in Western China.

The fan is 40 miles long, and several of the lighter toned channels visible in the image are carrying water from the Kunlun Mountains to fields of dunes in the desert.
