Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at dust from the Sahara Desert being carried over the Atlantic Ocean.

According to NASA, each year winds carry about 180 million tons of dust from the Sahara Desert and deposit it in the ocean and the Americas.

This image was captured by the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on board the Suomi NPP satellite.
