Today’s Image of the Day comes courtesy of the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at the Shandong Peninsula in eastern China.

This overhead view of the region highlights how much China has developed over the last 30 years. Back in 1985, this area was mostly an open stretch of mudflats occupied by wildlife. But by 2017, it has been heavily developed for use by industrial facilities and oil fields.

This image was captured by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on board the Landsat 8 satellite.
