Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at fires blazing last week, May 7 – 13, 2018, in the Amur Oblast region of Siberia.

This image was captured by the Landsat 8 satellite and reveals the severity of the wildfires, which have been exacerbated by an extra dry winter.

The fires have also caused a spike in atmospheric carbon dioxide levels and have spread aerosols into the air as far as North America.
