Today’s Image of the Day comes thanks to the European Space Agency (ESA) and features a look at smoke from the northern California wildfires that have been ravaging wine country.

Thus far, the fires have scorched over 170,000 acres of land, killing 17 people.

According to SFGate, heavy smoke has led to dangerously poor air quality in the area, causing some to be hospitalized for respiratory irritation.

This image was captured by the Copernicus Sentinel-3A satellite on October 9, 2017.
