This week, multiple wildfires have burned through Southern California, and today’s Image of the Day shows the smoke visible from space.

The photo comes courtesy of the NASA Earth Observatory and was taken by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board the Terra satellite.

The largest is the Thomas fire in Ventura county, which has covered over 94 square miles. Also visible are the Creek and Rye fires, while the Bel Air fire began the day after the image was captured.
