Today’s Image of the Day from the European Space Agency shows a cluster of stars that is nearly as old as the Universe itself.

The globular cluster called NGC 1466 is moving slowly across the outer limits of the Large Magellanic Cloud, which is one of the closest galaxies to the Milky Way.

Located around 160,000 light-years away from the Earth, NGC 1466 is around 13.1 billion years old and has a mass that is equivalent to 140,000 suns.

This image was captured by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope.
