Super Typhoon Mangkhut strikes the Northern Philippines • Earth.com

Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory features Super Typhoon Mangkhut, which made landfall in the northern Philippines on September 15, 2018.

According to local reports, wind speeds were as high as 130 miles per hour when the storm slammed into the island of Luzon.

The monster typhoon was nearly 600 miles across, with an eye wall that was 50 miles wide.

Super Typhoon Mangkhut is expected to make another landfall around Hong Kong and southern China.
