Today’s Image of the Day comes courtesy of the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at the Tanezrouft Basin in central Algeria.

The Tanezrouft Basin is part of the Sahara Desert located about 750 miles south of the city of Algiers. The area consists of sandstone canyons and a salt pan in the upper left corner of the image. Here, temperatures get so hot that there are no permanent residents or even any vegetation.

This image was captured by the Operational Land Imager on board the Landsat 8 satellite.
