Amistad Reservoir on the US-Mexico border • Earth.com

Last update: September 22nd, 2019 at 7:00 am

Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory features the Amistad Reservoir, which is just west of Del Rio on the border of Mexico and Texas.

The reservoir was created in 1969 at the junction of the Rio Grande and Devils River to store water and help prevent flooding.

While it is normal for the water to fluctuate, the reservoir levels were unusually dry by June of 2019.
