Today’s Image of the Day from the European Space Agency features the Biomass Earth Explorer satellite, which is expected to be launched in 2022.

The radar antenna will give scientists a view beneath woodland canopies to perform a global survey of Earth’s forests.

The satellite will ultimately provide global maps of the amount of carbon stored in the world’s forests, and will help experts monitor how this amount changes over time.
