Today’s Image of the Day from the European Space Agency features the Bosphorus in northwest Turkey, which is a narrow strait that is located between the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara.

The strait connects eastern Europe to western Asia, with around 48,000 ships passing through every year.

The densely populated city of Istanbul is visible on both sides of the Bosphorus in shades of white.

This image is a compilation of photographs captured by the Copernicus Sentinel-1 mission in the summer of 2018.
