The Camp Fire destroyed nearly 14,000 homes • Earth.com

Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory shows the distinctive burn scar from the Camp Fire, which is now completely contained after it became the deadliest fire in California history.

According to National Public Radio (NPR), the fire destroyed 13,972 homes. In addition, 158 people are still unaccounted for, while 88 people have been pronounced dead.

This image was captured on November 25, 2018 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite.
