Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory features a remarkable view of the Circuit Paul Ricard, a motorsport race track in southeastern France.

The track’s distinctive red and blue appearance represents the vehicle run-off areas, with an abrasive surface in the red zones to maximize braking.

Closeby to the track are the Le Castellet International Airport and several solar power plants.

Drew Feustel is the commander of International Space Station (ISS) Expedition 56. His interest in racing prompted him to capture this high-resolution photograph of the race track on June 9, 2018.
