Today’s Image of the Day from NASA features the Helix nebula covered in comet dust.

Located in the constellation Aquarius, the Helix nebula is known for its bright colors and its resemblance to a giant eye.

The nebula is believed to have been discovered around 1824 by Karl Ludwig Harding. Of all the bright planetary nebulae, this is one of the closest to the Earth.

The infrared image was captured on February 12, 2007 by the NASA Spitzer Space Telescope.
