Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory features northwest Argentina, a region that was home to dinosaurs during the Triassic Period around two hundred million years ago.

This photograph includes the Talampaya and Ischigualasto Natural Parks, which extend across a combined 275,000 hectares. The parks are important dig sites where many pristine dinosaur fossils have been recovered.

This image was captured on August 25, 2018 by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) on Landsat 8.
