Today’s Image of the Day from the European Space Agency shows the lunar eclipse over Lake Maggiore in the early morning hours of January 21, 2019.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first crew landing on the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission.

The Moon is now back in the spotlight as a targeted destination for space agencies worldwide.

The ESA is preparing for several Moon missions that will be developed in the next few years with international partners.

This image of the eclipse at totality was captured by Alberto Negro at 6:23 CET.
