Today’s Image of the Day from NASA shows the far side of the moon lit up by the sun as it crosses in front of the Earth.

The image was captured by the DISCOVR spacecraft’s Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC) camera and telescope from one million miles away.

The primary mission of DSCOVR is to gather real-time solar wind data for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
