Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory highlights the dynamic nature of the Padma River in Bangladesh.

Satellite imagery shows that the river has been transforming in size and shape and has been shifting in location for at least 30 years.

Thousands of people who depend on the waterway for farm irrigation or transportation must adapt to the ever-changing landscape along the river’s 75 miles of shoreline. According to NASA, hundreds to thousands of hectares of land vanish into the Padma River each year due to erosion.
