Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory features “America’s historic triangle.” The three colonial settlements of Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown in Virginia played critical roles in the battle for American liberty and independence.

At the third point of the triangle in Yorktown, General Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington in 1781 in the last land battle of the American Revolution.
