Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory features the easternmost point of the African continent, the Horn of Africa.

Dust storms are common in this region, which is an extension of the Saharan and Arabian deserts.

The land along the coastline is rugged and is characterized by dry river beds and steep cliffs.

This image was captured on June 4, 2018 by a member of the Expedition 56 crew onboard the International Space Station (ISS).
