The waxing crescent moon during an orbital sunrise •

Today’s Image of the Day from NASA features the waxing crescent moon just above the edge of the Earth.

Captured at the beginning of an orbital sunrise, the atmosphere appears blue. Part of a solar array is visible in the left portion of the image.

The photograph was taken on May 8, 2019 as the International Space Station flew 258 miles above the Sea of Japan.
