Today’s Image of the Day comes courtesy of NASA and features a look at a thermal image of Hurricane Maria.

The image was compiled using data from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on NASA’s Suomi NPP satellite on September 20, 2017 at 2:12am EDT.

At this time, the eye of the storm was east of the American Virgin Islands, with its powerful northwestern portion covering Puerto Rico.
