Today’s Image of the Day from the European Space Agency shows astronaut Luca Parmitano preparing for life on the International Space Station (ISS) using virtual reality.

Computer simulations are often used by astronauts to practice spacewalks and learn how to operate equipment in microgravity.

Parmitano is getting ready for the Beyond mission, which will be his second trip to the ISS.

The virtual training facility is part of the Virtual Reality Laboratory at NASA’s Johnson Space Center.
