Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory shows the remarkable difference across regions of India before and after a recent catastrophic flooding event.

The “once-in-a-century” flood displaced nearly a million people and claimed hundreds of lives.

The Operational Land Imager (OLI) on the Landsat 8 satellite captured the left image before the flood on February 6th, 2018. The Multispectral Instrument on the European Space Agency’s Sentinel-2 satellite captured the image on the right on August 22, 2018.
