Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory shows a pair of storms racing across the Western Pacific Ocean on August 7, 2019.

Typhoon Lekima is pictured on the left side of the photograph as it was strengthening into a category 3 storm on a track toward Japan’s southern Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan, and eastern China.

On the right, Tropical Storm Krosa was moving toward Iwo Jima and the Ogasawara Islands.

This natural-color image was captured by the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on the Suomi NPP satellite
