Air quality has dropped to unhealthy and hazardous from the Camp Fire •

Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory shows smoke spreading across northern California from the explosive Camp Fire.

The fire is responsible for at least 48 deaths and dozens of people are still unaccounted for. The hostoric event has also destroyed over 8,000 structures, including an estimated 7,600 single-family homes. 

In some parts of the state, the air quality has reached unhealthy to hazardous levels, according to the AirNow portal from the Environmental Protection Agency.

This image was captured on November 14, 2018 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite.
