Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory shows sea ice covering the Sannikov Strait, which connects the Laptev Sea with the East Siberian Sea.

The strait is congested with ice for most of the year but yet, as the world warms, sea ice continues to shrink.

This image was captured on June 5, 2016 by the Operational Land Imager on Landsat 8.
