Volcanoes in Baja California • Earth.com

Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at several different volcanoes in Baja California.

These images were captured by the Landsat 7 satellite, and the dry climate and scarce vegetation allow for the volcanic features to pop out.

La Reforma Caldera is located on the eastern coast, jutting out into the Gulf of California and surrounded by lava. Just west of La Reforma are three connected volcanoes: El Azufre, El Viejo, and La Virgen, which experienced an explosive eruption just 6,5000 years ago.
