Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory shows a cluster of fires burning along the Ontario and Manitoba border.

The fires, which were triggered by lightning in early July, are producing thick smoke plumes that can be seen streaming across Ontario.

Due to the wildfire smoke, hundreds of people were evacuated and air quality warnings were issued in Winnipeg and the United States.

This image was captured on July 7, 2019 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite.
