Today’s Image of the Day from the European Space Agency (ESA) was captured by German astronaut Alexander Gerst from the International Space Station (ISS).

The ESA recently hosted a workshop on lunar exploration in the Netherlands, where industry leaders and scientists discussed resources that could be used to send humans back to the moon and beyond. In an effort to make human space surveys more sustainable, the experts are working to identify lunar resources that could be extracted and used.

Gerst and other astronauts working at the ISS on the Horizons mission are also investigating new technologies to remotely control robots as they explore our solar system.
