Winter over the Caucasus Mountains in Russia • Earth.com

Today’s Image of the Day comes from the NASA Earth Observatory and features a look at the snow-covered Caucasus Mountains in Russia during winter.

Due to its location, where cold, dry air from Asia meets humid air from the Mediterranean, precipitation levels are very uneven across the range.

This image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board the Terra satellite.
