Yellow canola fields brighten up the summer in Canada •

Last update: November 13th, 2019 at 11:00 am

Today’s Image of the Day from NASA Earth Observatory shows the bright shades of yellow which appear every summer across Canadian prairies as canola fields are blooming.

In recent decades, canola has become a major cash crop for Canada and much of the oil and meal is exported to the United States.

The total region that is dedicated to growing canola has increased by three times since the mid-1980s.

The photograph is highlighted by yellow-tinged fields stretching across the provinces of Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba.

The image was captured on July 22, 2019 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite.
