Description

Klätterthunbergia ( Thunbergia coccinea ) is a species in the family of akantus plants (Acanthaceae) from northern India . Climbing shrubs to 10 m. Leaves egg rounds to welded cloves with clear nerves, up to 15 cm long. The flowers come in hanging clusters that can be 90 cm long. The flowers are 5-6 cm in diameter, with retracted flaps, bright red to orange red with yellow throat. Pollinated by sunbirds . Similar to praktthunbergia but has smaller flowers. Winter bloomer. Artepitetet coccinea (lat.) Means scarlet red.
