Appearance and leaves Proatriplex pleiantha is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 5 to 17 cm. The plants are bare, sometimes also weakly mealy. The upright shoots are branched from the base to white-yellowish or reddish, ascending sideways. The alternating, sometimes almost opposite leaves have a leaf stalk. Its light green, fleshy leaf blades are ovoid to almost circular in length and width of 5 to 28 millimeters. The blade edge is quite wide. The leaf anatomy corresponds to the "normal" (non-crown) type of the C3 plants .
