Description

Mulinum spinosum, ( neneo, black grass, snake grass ), is a species of shrub in the family Apiaceae. It is endemic to the high and low mountain ranges of Chile, from Coquimbo to the extreme south, and to much of Argentine Patagonia. It occurs in dense bushes in the form of a globular, soft and thorny cushion; grows up to 12 dm high. Leaves divided into three parts (thrific), spinescent. Flowers with short triangular petals and yellow petals that stand out from the foliage; in clusters from the same point: umbel. It is palatable to sheep in spring and summer eating tender shoots, flowers and fruits. Good value of protein and minerals, low lignin. But with consumption, the sheep meat takes on an unpleasant taste. For this reason, before sacrificing them, they are enclosed in paddocks free of this plant.
