Description

Bulbous plant perennial , glabrous, with stem without leaves of 10-40 cm high. Oval bulb , large, with a whitish wrapper similar to paper (tunic). Leaves in number 3-5 in basal rosette, linear to lanceolate, fluted, shorter than the stem, straight or separated. Loose inflorescence , with 3-20 flowers and lanceolate sporophyls that are somewhat longer than the peduncles of the flowers. Straight flowers in the bud, inclined to flowering, tubular-flared, 12-15 mm long, yellowish brown to red orange or greenish. Petalswelded together by the base, the 3 interiors stretched, the 3 external scrambled. Stamens in the center of the corolino tube, internal. 1 Globular trilocular fruits, dehiscent by three centrifugal apical grooves; numerous vertically compressed black seeds.
