Amphitecna

Description

Amphitecna is a genus with 24 species of trees belonging to the Bignoniaceae family. They are distributed throughout Central America and northern South America. They are small to medium-sized trees . Simple, alternate sheets. Inflorescence cauliflora or terminal, usually a solitary flower or a fascicle of few flowers; flowers with large calyx, irregularly divided, typically bilabiate; corolla generally white-greenish, tubular-campanulate; undexerted stamens; ovary ovoid-elliptic, more or less lepidoto, incompletely 2-locular. Fruit a pumpkin not pepónide , globose to ellipsoid, indehiscent, with a fragile woody exocarp and seeds embedded in the pulp; thick seeds, more than 1.3 cm long and 1.4 cm wide, not winged.
