Team with other annuals and perennials for eye-popping combinations.Easy and trouble free, Anchusa capensis have an upright habit and are shorter than most other species, -Blue Angel- is often called a -Dwarf Anchusa- or 'Dwarf Bugloss', the plants grow to a height of around 30 to 45cm (12 to 18in), with a spread of around 30cm (12in) and are ideal for tucking into larger containers or massing towards the front of a sunny border.The foliage has a relatively fine texture which sets it apart from other garden plants, and tends to remain dense right to the ground, so the plants do not requiring facer plants in front of them. Although this lovely plant is technically a perennial, they bloom early and are perfectly easy to grow as an hardy annual or biennial flower, the seeds can be sown almost any time of the year. Low maintenance, free flowering and uniform, the large cobalt blue, forget-me-not type flowers have a white circle around the dimpled centre, as is common in most members of Boraginaceae. The plants are suited as bee pasture and an excellent choice for attracting bees and butterflies to your garden. Anchusa are at their best when grown in full sunlight in well-drained soil. The plants are very adaptable to both dry and moist growing conditions, they are not particular as to soil type but will not tolerate any standing water. Hardy and tolerate temperatures down to minus 7-C (20-F) and considered drought-tolerant, they make an ideal choice for a low-water garden.
