Description

Brasilicereus is a genus of flowering plants of the cactus family(Cactaceae). The botanical name of the genus is derived from Brazil and means Brazilian Cereus. The species of the genus Brasilicereus grow shrubby with upright, sometimes oblique shoots , which rarely branch and reach a stature height between 1 and 4 meters. The slender shoots have a diameter of up to 2.5 centimeters. The 3 to 5 ribs are flat or narrow. The whitish to greyish-brown thorns emerging from the gray or white wool-covered areoles are needle-like and brittle. The 1 to 4 middle spines are up to 4 inches, the 10 to 18 spines 0.5 to 1.5 inches long. The short-tubular to bell-shaped flowers open at night. Its flower cup and the flower tube are covered with striking fleshy scales, the areoles are bald. The dull green to purple, not tearing fruits are spherical to pear-shaped and have a perennial remnant of flowers.
