Description

Coleocephalocereus purpureus is a species of the genus Coleocephalocereus in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet refers to the red flowers. Coleocephalocereus purpureus grows erect with columnar, deep green shoots branching at the base. The shoots reach at diameters of 10 centimeters growth heights of up to 90 centimeters. There are 13 ribs available. The initially golden yellow to red thorns later turn gray. Of the 4 middle spines is one to 7 inches long. The remaining three are between 3 and 3.5 inches long. The 12 outstretched and slightly curved marginal spines are needlelike. They have a length of 1.2 to 2.5 inches. Made of gray wool and golden yellow to brown bristles Cephalium is up to 50 inches long. The tubular flowers are purple, up to 3 inches long and have a diameter of 1.2 centimeters. The spherical to egg-shaped, shiny red fruits reach diameters of up to 1.7 centimeters and are 1.7 to 2.5 inches long.
